Too many choices
I have once again spent almost a whole week picking and choosing the right tool for the job. Simple job, really — periodically checking some websites. What could be possibly more trivial?
As with many "trivial" things, this one turned out to be not trivial. In fact, so not trivial that out of a dozen of hosted and open-source offerings only a handful matched my criteria of it being "just right".
As many others, I have started my search with Uptime Kuma. "Maybe there is something better" I thought to myself, and on was my search for the better.
A dozen options later I concluded my search and found the best option for my use case — it was Uptime Kuma.
Could I have saved the time and effort and just use it as the first option I stumbled upon? Of course. Would I have a thought in the back of my mind, eating at me, saying "there could be a better option"? Probably not, actually.
Funny how we. as engineers, are constantly faced with so many choices. And whilst some of them are mission critical, others practically do not matter.
How to decide without a hunch?
