Pod casts
Initially, the word “podcast” came around as variation of the word “broadcast”, which was used at the time of release of iPod.
Which is interesting, because of how natural it came to be: the name of the product, which itself was named after a thing (pod).
Another interesting thing is how easy it lands itself to metaphor. Pod can be thought of something intimate, close. Podcast itself is 1-to-1 communication medium.
I like these deep and intertwined meanings encoded into product names and concepts themselves. So much so that it makes the line blurry between whether it was deliberate or engineered.
