Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind) has received a Nobel Prize in chemistry for the breakthrough models like AlphaFold which helped with protein bonding. It’s not just language models that they work on. And he also has scientific experience.
The thing that puts these two apart from the other two very popular and rich companies like OpenAI (ChatGPT) and xAI (Grok) is the fact that they actually have scientific experience not just business know-how. Maybe it is because of this they have a stronger stance on ethics and usage of these technologies.
Somehow they just don’t go over to twitter and post “Feel the AGI” mantra as often. And for some reason their timelines and predictions are more conservative and nuanced.
